*folder or binder (you need some place to keep all of your Spanish materials together)

Tutoring:
-I am in my classroom most mornings by 6:45 and stay until 3:30. My scheduled tutoring day is Thursday afternoon, but please feel free to come any other day (except Monday and Tuesday afternoons when I have meetings)
-The school provides FREE tutoring- the day and time will be announced the first week of school. Come prepared with specific questions and/or an assignment on which you need help. It is not a social gathering, and students will have the opportunity to study, do homework, and ask questions with a Spanish teacher from our school. Although the teacher will be available to answer questions, this does not replace private tutoring because there is not time for the teacher to give extensive one on one help.
Foreign Language Re-testing Procedure:
All students will have the opportunity to re-take one chapter or unit test each nine weeks with the following conditions:
1. The student must have failed the test. The highest possible score for any re-take is a 70.
2. Prior to taking the re-take, the student must provide documentation from a TWHS teacher (or teachers) stating that the student attended two hours of tutoring with that teacher on campus.
3. The student must make arrangements with their teacher to schedule a re-take, and the teacher will determine when a re-take will be made available. For my class the retake must be done during the eighth week of the nine weeks.
Miss Harper's GRADE RECOVERY
Although I do NOT really accept late work, I do allow students an opportunity to "fix" very poor daily grades. I want the students to learn the concepts and do their best to improve in the language. Most daily grades can be redone for up to 60 points. It is my expectation that students do all that they can to correctly complete every homework assignment, but I do understand that there are several instances in which that may not occur. Regardless of the reason, students have the opportunity to turn in any assignment (even a previously graded assignment that has been corrected by the student) any time during the first eight weeks of the nine week period. The assignment will be graded and given a percentage out of 60 points. It is not as beneficial as doing the assignment correctly and punctually
the first time around, but it still gives a boost when something goes terribly wrong with daily work.
Description of the classes:
*Spanish 2, 90 minute is an 18 week course that covers chapters 1A through 6A of The Realidades Level 2 book provided by the district. We will learn vocabulary with each chapter and a few grammar points. With each chapter all Spanish 2 teachers will give the same quiz and test on the same date. Other assessments in class will vary according to the teacher, and they might include: pop quizzes, daily grade projects, speaking assignments, games, and other activities. Students will be expected to read, write, and communicate orally in the target language. This course is required for graduation on the recommended plan. Many colleges are beginning to require 3 consecutive levels of a foreign language.
*Spanish 3 is an 18 week honors course that covers chapters 1 through 6 of the Realidades Level 3 book provided by the district. We will learn two sets of vocabulary lists and grammar sections for each chapter. With each chapter all Spanish 3 teachers will give the same quizzes and tests on the same date. Other assessments in class will vary according to the teacher, and they might include: pop quizzes, daily grade projects, speaking assignments, verb checks, games, and other activities. Students will be expected to read, write, and communicate orally in the target language. Much of the class will be conducted in Spanish. Although this course is not required for graduation on the recommended plan, many colleges are asking for 3 consecutive levels of a foreign language. It is strongly suggested that
students who successfully complete Spanish 3 continue to levels 4 and 5. Students in level 5 will have the opportunity to take the AP test, gaining college credit hours (the exact number varies according to the university).
