Dear Parents and Students,

        WELCOME TO AN EXCITING BEGINNING!!! I am enthusiastic about the 2011-12 school year in Spanish II- IIGO welcome the challenges and excitement this year brings to everyone in the Woodlands community. Since each child's success isimportant to me, I am sending this letter to inform you of my procedures.

EVALUATION
Each 9 weeks:

Major Tests  = 50%      
Quizzes         = 20%   
Daily  = 30%
Semester Exam = 20%
                        
Semester Grade=  80% of 9 weeks average + 20% Final             

SPANISH DEPARTMENT RE-TAKE POLICIES
All students will have the opportunity to re-take one chapter or unit test each nine weeks with the following conditions:
1. The student must have failed the test.  The highest possible score for any re-take is a 70.
2. Prior to taking the re-take, the student must provide documentation from a TWHS teacher (or teachers) stating that the student attended two hours of tutoring with that teacher on campus.
3. The student must make arrangements with their teacher to schedule a re-take, and the teacher will determine when a re-take will be made available. For a copy of Retake Tutorial Form, go to resources.

MAKE-UP WORK
Homework is due at the beginning of class on a day to day basis. In case of absence, the student will make up work according to the guidelines set forth in the student handbook which states that tudents will be permitted one day for make-up work for each day of absence.Please contact the front office immediately if you know your child will be absent for several days.

TUTORIALS
Every day before school from 7:00-7:20 and after school from 2:30-3:00 or by appointment with Mrs.Rivero-room 221.  Mondays and Thursdays- 5:30-7:30 p.m.- room 107

KEYS TO SUCCESS
-In order to be successful, your child needs:
  • to actively participate in classroom activities
  • to seek help immediately when needed (that includes tutorials)
  • to review DAILY
  • to complete homework on a day it is assigned
  • to maintain an organized binder
  • to use a daily assignment book
  • to make up all work PROMPTLY
  • to bring materials to class everyday
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Respectful classroom behavior is expected for each student. District and school policies regarding discipline will be enforced. Each student will be responsible for any school-issued materials.

SUPPLIES due (for a daily grade) MONDAY, AUGUST 29TH, 2011
Make sure to bring everyday the following items to class:
  • 3 hole 2 inch binder and paper
  • planner for homework and programming quizzes/tests
  • dividers
  • Spanish- English pocket dictionary
  • dry erase markers/ eraser
  • pencils/ pens/ highlighter/ fine point Sharpie (any color except yellow)        
The teacher will assign the class two of the following:
  • one tissue paper, Clorox wipes, paper towel
