Tech savvy? Love animals? Volunteer with the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter located at 8535 Highway 242, Conroe, TX 77385 is currently over capacity. Students over the age of 16 can help animals and gain valuable experience by volunteering.

       “Many animals have been surrendered to the shelter and surrounding shelters due to adults heading back to work, summer vacations, relocating out of state, [or] changes in their homestead,” volunteer Maris Watson said. “MCAS is known to have a high intake. Animal advocates are working towards educating pet owners, providing low cost spay and neuter options, and providing resources to low-cost pet vaccines and more. It is a start and there is a long way to go.”

       The shelter needs volunteers, which affords great opportunities for high school students in need of service hours.

       “Children ages 16 and older can volunteer without parent supervision,” Watson said. “There is a two-part Volunteer Orientation that consists of a video presentation to view online then followed by an in-person volunteer orientation. The in-person volunteer orientation is flexible, a student can set up the time and date. Volunteer hours are logged in using a mobile app with times approved by the Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers are welcome to volunteer at any time for any amount during operation hours. We would love to see students volunteer that are savvy with TikTok and Instagram to create clips to better market the adoptable dogs and cats.”
